of historical music and of old music on original instruments.

Erste Veranstaltung der von Christian Döbereiner mitbegründeten "Vereinigung für Alte Musik" in München. Aufgeführt wurde insbesondere die Sonate in E-Moll für Viola da Gamba von Karl Friedrich Abel. Zuvor wurde diese Sonate lange Zeit nur auf einem Cello gespielt.
(The first event of the "Association for Old Music" in Münich, co-founded by Christian Döbereiner. Particularly noteworthy the performance of the sonata in e-minor by Karl Friedrich Abel , which had for the longest time been performed only on the violoncello.)

Johann Sebastian Bach's Matthäuspassion wurde unter dem Dirigat von Felix Mottl zum ersten Mal in München ungekürzt aufgeführt, wobei Christian Döbereiner die "Aria per Viola da Gamba e Basso "Komm süsses Kreuz" zum ersten Mal seit Bach´s Zeiten in Originalbesetzung spielte.

(The St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach was performed for the first time (in modern times) in the unabridged version under the direction of Felix Mottl, wherein Christian Döbereiner played the Aria per Viola da gamba e Basso, "Komm süsses Kreuz" for the first time since Bach's time in the original instrumentation.)

A photograph of Christian Döbereiner, many years later, examining the viola da gamba built by Joachim Tielke in 1691 for Elector Johann Wilhelm von der Pfalz, now in the Bavarian National Museum of Munich. In addition to championing the viol in Germany and the USA, Mr. Döbereiner also authored one of the first tutors for playing on the viol da gamba, which was published very early into the 20th C. He edited a substantial number of works for the viola da gamba and for the baryton.



The German Association for Early Music in 1906. Christian Döbereiner founded this organisation.
Here he is shown with a seven-string German viola da gamba.
